Rajasthan Royals posted a 7-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Sports City on Saturday to pick up their eighth win of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League as fifties from skipper Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel propelled the table toppers to yet another brilliant triumph.

Jurel’s unbeaten 52-run knock, the batter’s maiden IPL fifty, was made all the more special as his family watched on from the stands and celebrated alongside the 23-year-old after his exploits helped the side over the line.

Samson starred with an unbeaten 72-run innings as the inaugural-edition winners sealed their win with an over to spare.

RR won the toss and opted to have a field first against LSG as the visitors drew first blood with the dismissal of Quinton de Kock in the opening over of the game. RR doubled down on the damage as they scalped Marcus Stoinis for a duck in the very next over.

KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda stabilised the Lucknow innings with a 115-run partnership as the latter reached the 50-run mark before being sent back by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Nicholas Pooran was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma following his 11 run innings off as many deliveries. Skipper Rahul was scalped by Avesh Khan after his brilliant 76-run knock, while Ayush Badoni and Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten at 18 and 15 runs to help LSG to a target of 196 for the loss of half their side in 20 overs.

RR were provided a good start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler put up a 60-run opening stand before the Englishman fell victim to Yash Thakur. Jaiswal followed his teammate back to the hut in the very next delivery.

Riyan Parag added 14 runs before Amit Mishra dismissed the young batter. But, Samson and Jurel ensured that RR would cement their place atop the leaderboard with unbeaten half-centuries that got their side over the finish line.
