IPL 2024: Abhishek Sharma One-ups Travis Head to Set Fastest Fifty for the Sunrisers Hyderabad
Travis Head announced his return to the IPL with a record 18-ball fifty for SRH but this was one-upped by Abhishek Sharma who also managed to get the fifty in just 16 balls.

It is an absolute run-fest at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium which hosts the first home game for Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on the Mumbai Indians. Leading the charge was the left-handed duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma who managed to bring up their fifties in record time.

The Australian was roped in for 6.8 crores INR by the Sunrisers and had missed out in their opening clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders. But he managed to make a massive statement on his return to the IPL as he managed to set the tone in the first innings.

Head managed to strike boundaries all around the ground as he brought up his half-century off just 18 deliveries to set the record for the fastest fifty for SRH.

His innings was cut short by Gerald Coetzee who picked up the breakthrough to send the wicketkeeper-batter back in the hut after scoring 62 runs off 24 deliveries,

The record for SRH’s fastest fifty did not stay with Head for long as his fellow left-hander Abhishek managed to take charge of the innings, following the Australian’s dismissal.

The young left-hander from Punjab managed to continue his good form as he managed to one-up his Australian counterpart to race past his half-century in just 16 deliveries to set a new record.

The boundaries continued to flow as Heinrich Klaasen managed to take the onus to keep up with the scoring rate and set up a brilliant partnership with his fellow South African, Aiden Markram as the home side raced past the 200-run mark within the 15th over.

The 2016 champions have already reached the 240-run mark in the 18th over and will look to continue to pile on the misery on MI as they aim to clinch their first points of the season.

However, MI have a strong batting line-up of their own and the bowling attack led by the skipper Pat Cummins will be put to the test in what seems to be a high-scoring game. The experience of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and co will have a mammoth task at hand if they are to have a chance in getting even close to a win today.
