‘Infectious’: Australian Ex-Cricketer Tom Moody Describes Electric Environment During Nepal Vs Netherlands
An estimated 15,000 Nepalis are currently living in Dallas and only less than half of them could fill the seats at the Grand Prairie Stadium yesterday.

Dallas was taken by storm after Nepalese fans formed a sea of blue and red in yesterday’s T20 World Cup game. Nepal faced the Netherlands at the Grand Prairie Stadium on June 4 in Texas. Despite heading into the fixture as the underdogs, the Nepalese supporters ensured that their cheers were heard during the game.

The official X handle of ESPNcricinfo shared a glimpse of the scenes from yesterday’s match. The post comprised a picture of the Asian team’s supporters along with some words from Australian ex-cricketer Tom Moody.

“The support and passion from the Nepalese fans today in Dallas was infectious. The game is growing rapidly in Nepal, with further opportunity this young side will grow rapidly,” the Aussie said.

Fans have now reacted to the electric environment that was created by Nepal fans in Dallas. One of them wrote, “Always loved that kind of support for association teams”

Another added, “We love you Nepal”.

One fan ensured that he highlighted why teams like Nepal were simply not getting enough opportunities to showcase their support on the big stage. He said, “Thanks Tom Moody, but the bitter reality is that opportunities aren’t just coming as smoothly. Teams like ours are only getting to exhibit their potential once in a blue moon”.

Another highlighted that the Asian side needed more international games. “We need more international games,” he wrote.

An estimated 15,000 Nepalis are currently living in Dallas and only less than half of them could fill the seats at the Grand Prairie Stadium yesterday. However, this didn’t prove to be a major setback as the Nepalese fans roared against the Netherlands in a losing effort.

Dutch cricketer Logan van Beek was particularly impressed by the environment at the stadium. Speaking about the game at half-time, this is what the cricketer said as per ESPNcricinfo – “I’m not sure whether we are in Nepal or Dallas.

Most of these chants were mostly for Nepal’s 21-year-old Rohit Paudel who became the youngest skipper at any T20 World Cup. There were lots of smiles and handwritten signs for the support of the Asian squad but the electric environment was soon silenced after Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed in a LBW affair in the fourth over.

More wickets followed, leaving Nepal wounded at a total of 106 in the first half. In the second innings, the Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd played an unbeaten knock of 54 runs to seal a victory for the Dutchmen.

Nepal will play their next Group D game against Sri Lanka. The match will be hosted at the Central Broward Regional Park on June 12.
