India will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home. The series opener is scheduled to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from September 19 onwards, and Green Park Stadium in Kanpur will host the second match from September 27. According to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Wednesday (September 4), the BCCI selectors are likely to announce the Indian squad for the home series against Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side after the end of the first round of matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024, which will be played in Bengaluru and Anantapur from September 5 to 8.

Many high-profile Indian players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel, among others, will be seen in action during the first round matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024.

It has been reported that India’s red-ball players are scheduled to begin their training at Chepauk on September 12, whereas Bangladesh will train at the same venue from September 15.

India has managed to win 11 out of 13 Tests played against Bangladesh so far, and on two occasions, the match ended in a draw.

India, which sits at No. 1 position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table, would like to get the better of Bangladesh in the home series and boost its chances of qualifying for the third straight WTC final. But it won’t be an easy job this time around as Bangladesh is also on a high and will land in India after defeating Pakistan in back-to-back red-ball matches played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Kohli to make comeback?

India last played a red-ball match in March 2024 against England at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala, and managed to win it by an innings margin. Star Indian batter Virat Kohli missed all five Tests of the home series against England due to the birth of his second child. The 35-year-old right-handed batter, who is India’s most successful captain in Tests, is all set to make a comeback in the Test team for the Bangladesh series. But it will be interesting to see if star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has not played any match since the 2024 T20 World Cup final, is picked up or not.
