Indian batter Shreyas Iyer fell for a duck in the Duleep Trophy match between India D and India B on Thursday.
The dismissal marked the second time in three innings that the 29-year-old was scalped before getting off the mark in the domestic tournament. Iyer, who had only spent four deliveries at the crease on the day prior to the delivery of his dismissal went for a wild heave and was caught at mid-off by Nitish Kumar Reddy off Rahul Chahar’s over.
Iyer had made 41 runs the previous time he walked out to bat and hoped to continue in the same ilk but was let down by haste as he looked to force a shot, which ultimately proved to be his downfall on the day. The batter had also registered a duck in the prior fixture.
Iyer’s side were put to bat first by the opposition side and were off to a good start as Devdutt Padikkal and Srikar Bharath notched up a triple-digit partnership for the first wicket with both batters crossing the half-century mark.
Padikkal fell to Navdeep Saini after making 50 runs, before Bharath was scalped for 52 by Mukesh Kumar.
Nishant Sindhu was next to go as Rahul Chahar claimed the wicket of the batter after he had scored 19 runs. Chahar doubled his tally with the dismissal of Iyer as the India D skipper walked back to the hut without opening his account.
Ricky Bhui also came up with a half-century as he made 56 runs before Rahul Chahar sent him back to the hut.
However, Sanju Samson walked out and took control of the game as he stood unbeaten at 89 runs at stumps on Day 1 of the fixture as India D ended the day on 306 for the loss of 5 wickets.
Saransh Jain stood unbeaten alongside Samson at 26 runs at the end of the opening day’s play.
