India is gearing up for the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa which will be held at Centurion. However, one big miss for the Indian team is Mohammed Shami. The pacer was in his best form through the recently concluded 2023 ODI World Cup where he finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 24 wickets in just seven matches played.
Shami was ruled out of the Test series after failing to clear the fitness tests by the BCCI medical team.
Former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer posted on his handle on X where he talked about the loss of Shami for the Test and the opportunity that the younger pacers have at the moment.
Shami will be missed big time in SA Tests, but it’s a great opportunity for Prasidh & Mukesh to show that they’re the future of Indian fast bowling. Can’t ask for a better place to bowl than South Africa. Who are you picking as the third seamer between these two? #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/7yCgrGDgrY— Wasim Jaffer (@WasimJaffer14) December 25, 2023
The former Indian opening batter said, “It’s a great opportunity for Prasidh & Mukesh to show that they’re the future of Indian fast bowling.”

Mukesh Kumar has played just one Test match against the West Indies earlier in July. Prasidh on the other hand is yet to debut for India in the red-ball format.
The biggest positive so far will be the return of senior stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma.
Bumrah along with Siraj are expected to take the lead in the fast-bowling department while it is a toss-up between Mukesh and Prasidh for the third fast-bowling option.

Another question is whether India would play both Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the Test and if so would they go for the two pacers two spinners combo or will they have a fifth bowling option in Mukesh or Prasidh?
India will be eager to perform in the Test having never won a series against the Proteas in South African soil.
India’s Test Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna, KS Bharat (wk).
