BCCI to Meet IPL Owners at July End to Discuss Player Retentions, Salary Cap: Report
The BCCI has asked the owners to be available for the meeting. The main agenda will be player retention as the franchises have been coming up with different views about it.

With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auctions scheduled to take place later this year, all ten franchises are likely to discuss the player retention policy with the BCCI in a meeting at the end of July. The meeting is expected to take place at the Indian cricket board’s refurbished headquarter in Mumbai on either 30 or 31 July. However, the dates are yet to be confirmed.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI has asked the owners to be available for the meeting. The main agenda will be player retention as the franchises have been coming up with different views about it.

The report stated that the older franchises have asked for the number of retentions permitted to be stretched to eight. The demand has been made for the sake of continuity, fan engagement and brand building. On the other hand, a few are in favour of minimal retentions.

It has also been learned that the franchises have different opinions on the Right to Match (RTM) option, debating whether to have it during the mega auctions.

It has been learned that the BCCI has already asked for the opinions of the franchises over key issues and is expected to take the final call in the meeting later this month.

Discussion over salary cap

The franchises shall also discuss the salary cap which is expected to be around Rs 120 crore in the first year of the forthcoming 3-year cycle. In that case, discussions around the salaries of the retained player will also take centre stage.

As per the report, the payout for top retentions was around 16-17 percent of the salary and if that formula is applied, the top retained players shall receive around Rs 20 crore. However, the BCCI is likely to chalk out a plan to sort this thing out.
