The Indian women's cricket team will open its campaign in the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday (October 4) against New Zealand in Dubai.

Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian women’s cricket team will open its campaign in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday (October 4). In the first match, the Women in Blue will face New Zealand in Dubai and then take on archrivals Pakistan in the second match on Sunday (October 6) in Dubai. India’s third match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday (October 9) against Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka, and on October 13, India will face six-time champions Australia in Sharjah.

Ahead of Indian women’s first match in the 10-team tournament, family members of the players send a special video message to them and wish the side for the upcoming tournament.

BCCI took to Instagram on Friday to upload the video of special messages to the players from their family members, and it is now going viral on the internet. Apart from the players families, the wife and daughter of head coach Amol Muzumdar also wished the Indian women’s team to end the long wait for the first-ever ICC title.

India will start the T20 World Cup 2024 as one of the favourites to win the title. In the last edition of the women’s shortest format megaevent, India finished second in the group stage to qualify for the semifinal, but it failed to get the better of Meg Lanning’s Australia.

India’s best performance in the T20 World Cup was during the 2020 edition, which was played in Australia. India managed to secure a place in the summit clash of that tournament but failed to get the better of Australia in the final match played on March 8, 2020, at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

India is coming into the T20 World Cup 2024 after winning both the warm-up matches played against the West Indies and South Africa. India defeated 2016 champions West Indies by 20 runs on September 29 and managed to get the better of 2023 edition losing finalists South Africa by 28 runs on October 1.

India’s squad for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Shreyanka Patil, Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Renuka Thakur Singh, Dayalan Hemalatha, S Sajana, Yastika Bhatia, Asha Sobhana
