'10 Years of Failures and Few Successes': Sanju Samson Counting on His Experience Ahead of India's T20 World Cup Campaign - WATCH
Sanju Samson believes that all the experience accumulated so far in his career is going to serve him well ahead of India's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

The Indian Cricket Team is set to play their opening game in the T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland at the Nassau County Stadium in New York on June 5 and Sanju Samson believes that he has prepared as best as possible ahead of the T20 showpiece event.

Speaking in a video interview uploaded by the BCCI, the wicketkeeper-batter was quietly confident in his abilities which could be put to the test in the tournament.

“This is the most prepared or experienced Sanju Samson coming into a World Cup actually. 10 years of lots and lots of failures, a few successes here and there, life and cricket have taught me everything I need to know ahead of this crucial tournament,” said Samson.

Leading the Rajasthan Royals in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League, Samson had arguably his best season with the bat where he played in a consistent manner throughout the tournament which took the side to the playoffs. He revealed that despite the pressure of the tournament, he had thoughts about the World Cup selection on the back of his mind.

He commented, “The IPL itself I had covered all my mind space, there was a lot to do, a lot to think. Being the captain of the side, my mind was always occupied. But somewhere in the back of my mind it was there because World Cup selections were also around, it was a huge thing”.

Speaking about his recent performances with the bat, Sanju reflected on it and suggested that his intent of making every ball count might have had an impact on getting him the ticket to the World Cup but remained wary of the potential issues regarding selection as well.

“One of the best things that could happen to my career was those shots we keep on playing, and I knew that I had a reasonably good season in the IPL where I do have my chances to get in. But at the same time, I know how tough it is. It depends on what the team wants, and the combination the team and selectors and management are looking for,” he added.

He concluded, “But the moment I got convinced that Sanju you are ready, life and cricket gave back to me. So that’s how I like to look at it—another great moment”.
