Tamil Nadu Vet Shares How To Take Care Of Dogs Amid Northeast Monsoon
In this season, dogs mainly suffer from two main diseases in Tamil Nadu. One of them is parvoviral enteritis and the other is canine distemper.

As the southern part of India suffers from the northeast monsoons, Tamil Nadu has been the most affected state. The northeast monsoon brings cold winds and heavy showers, which have affected people’s lives. Even animals are being affected by the weather. Now, Viluppuram Veterinary Assistant Dr Balaji has explained to News18 Local the special attention that should be paid to domestic pets during the rainy season. He has shared how they can be protected and what proper measures should be taken.

Dr Balaji revealed that during the rainy season, dogs usually get more worms, especially in this weather. So, it becomes important to deworm them. Small puppies should be dewormed once a month, while adult dogs should be dewormed once every three months.

In this season, dogs mainly suffer from two main diseases in Tamil Nadu. One of them is parvoviral enteritis. This usually happens in unvaccinated puppies, and they suffer from vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, etc. This disease usually occurs in dogs during climate change. Another common disease that happens during this time is canine distemper, a debilitating disease that causes seizures and muscle twitches. Both of these diseases are life-threatening. The doctor revealed that the only way for the dogs to be cured of these diseases is to get vaccinated.

Dr Balaji also advised that proper grooming should be done for dogs. Grooming the dog with a comb will help them heat their bodies and they will remain active. Dog owners are also advised to take proper care while bathing their pets. Dogs should be bathed twice a week in the rainy season and once a week in the hot season.

It is better to bathe dogs in hot water during the rainy season. Separate towels and soap should be used for dogs. It is important to keep the dog’s ears dry as much as possible so that there is no moisture. If water enters the ears while taking a bath, it will cause infection among the dogs.

Apart from that, ticks are more prevalent in dogs, mainly during the rainy season. So, it is advised to take proper care to remove ticks from their bodies. The doctor also suggested some homemade remedies like neem leaves, to remove ticks from the body.
