Ganesh Satish struck his maiden first class double hundred and Muralidharen Guatam scored an unbeaten 130 to lead Karnataka to a narrow 24-run first innings lead over Chennai in their Group B Ranji Trophy match. Satish and Gautam batted superbly as Karnataka scored 323 runs on the fourth and final day to score 562 for 6 and walked away with three points from the high-scoring clash.
The visitors began the day at 239 for 3 and had a daunting task at hand to score 300 runs to overhaul Chennai’s total of 538. Satish’s unbeaten 200 came off 418 balls as he batted through the day after resuming at his overnight score of 65.
Karnataka lost overnight batsman Amit Verma (31) and Stuart Binny (10) but Gautam supported Satish well. When Gautam retired hurt and left the field, Sunil Raju came to bat. He scored 13 runs before being stumped off Malolan Rangarajan. Gautam re-joined Satish and batted till the end of the day. He took 171 balls for his 131, laced with 13 boundaries.

Hosts Baroda pocketed three valuable points by virtue of first innings lead after their second Ranji Trophy Group B match against Vidarbha ended in a tame draw. Baroda declared their first innings at 514 for 7 in reply to Vidarbha’s 264 all out, thereby taking a vital lead of 250 runs in the first innings.
In their second innings, Vidarbha rode on half centuries from opener Faiz Fazal and Shalabh Srivastava’s to finish at 218 for 4 off 83.3 overs before captains of both the sides decided to drew curtains to the dull affair.
After two rounds of matches, Vidarbha is placed second in Group B with seven points (behind Delhi, who also have 7 points, on net runrate) while Baroda occupies the fourth sport with six points.

Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh shared a point each after their Group B Ranji Trophy match ended in a dull draw that saw 1433 runs being scored over four days on a dead track.
In reply to Maharashtra’s mammoth 764 for 6 declared, Uttar Pradesh made 669 for 7, still trailing by 105 runs when stumps were drawn on the fourth and final day. Since the team batting in second innings wasn’t completed within the stipulated four days, both the sides got a point each according to the new BCCI points system for Ranji Trophy.
