MG Ramachandran-starrer Tamil Film Sarvadhikari Completes 72 Years Of Release
Sarvadhikari was loosely based on the Hollywood film The Gallant Blade, directed by Henry Levin.

MG Ramachandran, endearingly known as Puratchi Thalaivar (revolutionary leader), was one of the finest actors in the Tamil film industry. He took the Tamil cinema to great heights with his stellar body of work, comprising many major crowd-puller films. These films used to run in the cinema for 100-plus days. One such movie was Sarvadhikari, directed by TR Sundaram. Sarvadhikari was loosely based on the Hollywood film The Gallant Blade, directed by Henry Levin. The film was released on September 14, 1951, and completed 72 years of its release yesterday. It ran for over 141 days in Tiruchirappalli, Chennai. Sarvadhikari revolves around an ambitious minister Mahavarman (MN Nambiar), who plans to topple the puppet king (Pulimoottai Ramaswami). Mahavarman cannot do the same without defeating the commander-in-chief Ugrasenar (Chittor V Nagaiah) and his favourite soldier Prathapan (MGR). Whether Mahavarman will be able to do so or not forms the core theme of this film.

According to a report published in The Hindu, MN Nambiar received accolades for his acting prowess, despite the presence of many talented actors like Chittor V Nagaiah and MGR. Nambiar’s career graph witnessed an upward trend with the success of Sarvadhikari. He became one of the most sought-after actors in Tamil cinema thereafter. Sarvadhikari also became a grand success due to the fight sequences and actress Anjali Devi’s acting skills. Anjali Devi played the role of an assassin, who was sent by Mahavarman to trap the soldier Prathapan. In an interesting turn of events, she, however, ends up falling in love with him.

Sarvadhikari is currently streaming on Sun NXT and has an IMDB rating of 7.5.

MGR continued to entertain the audience with many films. His call sheet was reportedly lined up with a lot of films every time. According to reports, he had to make sure that his films didn’t clash with one another. He raked in huge profits as well after doing the adjustment. MGR died on December 29, 1987, at the age of 70.
