Virgin puts Kamasutra on mobile
The mobile application on Deepak Chopra’s latest book could focus more on romance and spirituality than sex.

Mumbai: Virgin Comics, the new media and entertainment arm of Sir Richard Branson’s, Virgin Group, in association with India’s Jump Games, will soon release a mobile application based on best-selling author Deepak Chopra’s latest book titled, “Kamasutra: Timeless Erotica and the Seven Spiritual Laws of Love.”

While the book explores spirituality and sexuality in a dynamic, even controversial, new way, the mobile application (when released) could focus more on romance and spirituality than sex.

Co-founder, CEO and Publisher of Virgin Comics, Sharad Devarajan suggested that the Kamasutra was not understood in its entirety. “I think the Kamasutra has been distorted in the western prism of the world. Sex is just a smaller part of the overall philosophy. I think spirituality is completely lost in the sub-text of the Kamasutra."

"The application by Jump Games is designed as a more trivia kind of application. What Deepak Chopra has tried to do is bring out the stages of love, its relevancy and spirituality. We will work closely with Jump Games on that, since we know that Deepak has given a level of sophistication to the Kamasutra,” says Sharad Devarajan.

The artwork in the book is illustrated with new artwork by the Virgin Illustration Studios. So, while readers may have been compelled to revel, play and learn from the Kamasutra, it remains to be seen if mobile subscribers adhere to the same, with the new application on their handsets.

“The whole idea here is to present the spirituality in the book. The application is aimed at couples. It's a romantic application, which is very aesthetically designed. In fact, we have already shown it to operators worldwide and even those operators who are very careful about the kind of adult content they provide to consumers, have all loved it."

"We haven’t really talked to any carriers in India, since right now the focus is on the markets in the US, Europe and Japan,” says Salil Bhargava, chief executive officer, Jump Games-the company that will develop the mobile application for Deepak Chopra’s book.
