New Delhi: A spectacular Bull Run has helped both Sensex and Nifty to touch their all-time highs on the last day of this trading week.
On the dream day for the bourses, both the key indices Sensex and Nifty have managed to conquer the psychological level of 14,000 and 4,000 respectively once again.
After a strong opening, on the back of strong global sentiment, markets continue the up trend and Sensex breached its previous high of 14,060.35 while Nifty breached its previous high of 4,046.85 during the day.
The BSE benchmark Sensex touched an intra-day high of 14,070.88 points while broad-based Nifty touched an intra-day high of 4,059.15 points.
Stock brokers said reports of firming trends in overseas markets and expectations of improved third-quarter results from corporate majors were the major factors behind the upward march.
They said the government's decision to lift completely the ban on exports of sugar too had a positive impact on the trading sentiments, triggering fresh buying activity in sugar company stocks.
The Sensex closed up 425.82 points or 3.12 per cent at 14,056.53, and the Nifty ended up 110.20 points or 2.80 per cent at 4,052.45.
About 1591 shares have advanced, 1,044 shares declined, and 41 shares are unchanged.
ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI and BHEL were the top gainers on the Sensex.
ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Oriental Bank and SBI were the top gainers on the Nifty.
There were no losers on the Sensex and Nifty indices.
The BSE Auto index was up 1.48 per cent or 82.34 points at 56.37.76. TVS Motor, Tata Motors, M&M, Bharat Forge, Cummins, Sundaram-Clayto gained.
The BSE Bankex gained 6.79 per cent or 469.40 points at 7,383.25. ICICI Bank, Bank of India, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, Oriental Bank, PNB advanced.
The BSE Capital Good index closed up 2.24 per cent or 200.14 points at 9,128.19. Thermax, BHEL, Ingersoll Rand, Siemens, BEML, Bharat Elec, Alstom Projects ended up.
The BSE FMCG index was up 0.98 per cent or 18.70 points at 1,927.47. ITC, Nirma, Shaw Wallace, Dabur India closed in green.
The BSE Healthcare index gained 1.94 per cent or 73.68 points at 3,871.56. Sterling Bio, Cipla, Wockhardt, Nicholas Pirama, Matrix Lab, Lupin, Novartis India moved up.
The BSE IT index surged 2.24 per cent or 117.21 points at 5,348.10. HCL Tech, TCS, Patni Computer, Satyam, Infosys flared.
The BSE Metal index ended up 2.09 per cent or 184.93 points at 9,029.89. Jindal Saw, SAIL, JindalStainless, Mah Seamless, Guj NRE Coke ended positive.
The BSE Oil & gas index was up 2.77 per cent or 176.79 points at 6,559.27. IOC, HPCL, Reliance, BPCL, MRPL gained.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 10,000.82 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 37,647.92 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4,587.86 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 52,236.6 crore.
