Sensex hits 12K 1st time since May 18
The bulls outstripped the bears again. Sensex touched 12,000 mark for the first time since May 18 in late trade.

Mumbai:The markets ended firm for the third straight session. The bulls outstripped the bears again.

Finally the Sensex touched 12,000 mark for the first time since May 18 in late trade but could not sustain. It rose 79.23 points or 0.67 per cent to end at 11,973.02, which is the highest closing since May 17.

The Nifty was up 17.05 points or 0.49 per cent at 3,471.60. The CNX Midcap ended up 0.54 per cent or 24.1 points at 4,520.75.

The market breadth was negative, about 1,106 shares advanced, 1,352 shares declined, and 63 shares remained unchanged.

ICICI Bank, Grasim, Bajaj Auto, Guj Ambuja Cem, TCS, SAIL, Zee and Oriental Bank were the top gainers on the bourses.

However, Hero Honda, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Reliance Energy, Bharti Airtel and GSK Pharma were the biggest losers.
