Mumbai: Reliance plans to take the market by storm. The company is considering a comprehensive three-tier retail format for each city.

There will be at least 8 hypermarkets in Hyderabad. Each will be spread over 75,000 square feet on a single floor and perhaps a mezzanine level.

The hypermarket will sell multiple brands of apparel, FMCG products, groceries and white goods. It will offer bundled products at discounts. Reliance has fixed six locations for these markets.

Next is the superstore. That's a smaller cousin of the hypermarket; they will be multi-branded outlets, each spread over 50,000 square feet. They will offer apparel, FMCG products and groceries. Reliance has fixed 6 locations for such stores as well.

The supermarket is the third type of store. This one's all about wider penetration. Each store will spread over at least 10,000 square feet at 20 locations. They will stock FMCG products and groceries and cater to the common man.

Sources say Reliance has done its homework. It has done comprehensive research on income levels and footfalls in each ward of the city and it will launch the three levels of the chain at one go thus reaching all segments of the market.

Sources say Reliance wants to acquire and lease 5 lakh square feet of retail space in Hyderabad. It has also shown interest in playing an anchor role in new malls that will come up here in the next few years.

This means taking more than 40% of floor space. Groceries, fresh food, meat and dairy products will drive the chain and the plan is due to unfold by November.
