Mkts open with gap down on weak global cues
The markets opened on weak note on Tuesday.

Mumbai: The markets opened on weak note on Tuesday on the back of weak cues from the global markets. At 10:05 am, Sensex was down 177.17 points at 19456 and Nifty was down 67.05 at 5841.

Major losers were BPCL, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Infosys, DLF, ICICI Bank, Rel Comm and SAIL. However, Axis Bank, GAIL. IOC, Power Grid and RNRL were among top gainers.

Asian markets Plunged today as financials in the region were hit by a sell-off on Wall Street.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng tumbled 3.21% or 881.19 points at 26,578.98. Japan's Nikkei fell 1.9% or 285.89 points at 14,756.67, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted slipped 3.29% or 285.93 points at 8,394.78, Singapore's Straits Times dropped 1.99% or 67.82 points at 3,343.90 and South Korea's Seoul Composite plunged 3.40% or 64.43 points at 1,829.04.

US markets: The Dow plunged 218.35 points, or 1.66%, to 12,958.44. The S&P 500 index fell 25.47 points, or 1.75%, to 1,433.27, and the Nasdaq composite index slipped 43.86 points, or 1.66%, to 2,593.38.
