New Delhi: The markets had a quiet sort of a day ending on a flat note. The broad market was seen consolidating and was range bound crises crossing between the positive and the negative terrain.
The mid cap space held out a bit better and the small cap ended flat. The breadth ended in the favour of decline and the turnover was a shade less than yesterday. However, it was a good week for the markets.
Sensex closed down 22.10 points or 0.17 per cent at 13285.93, and the Nifty down 14.85 points or 0.38 per cent at 3861.05.
About 1002 shares have advanced, 1501 shares declined, and 93 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed flat at 6,456.61. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,401.33 up 6 points or 0.11 per cent. The BSE FMCG Index lost 1.2 per cent at 1,689.47. ITC, Nirma, P&G, Britannia closed in red.
The BSE Metal Index was up 0.3 per cent to close at 8,071.82. Sterlite Ind, JSW Steel, Jindal Steel, SAIL, Jindal Saw were among the gainers
The BSE Bankex was flat at 6,107.72. Canara Bank, Oriental Bank, Bank of Baroda, Allahabad Bank, IOB moved downwards.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 0.6 per cent at 3,459.06. Aurobindo Pharm, Pfizer, Cipla, Biocon, Wyeth closed higher.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 2.6 per cent at 8,334.96. Crompton Greave, Gammon India, L&T, BHEL, Bharat Elec ended higher
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,039.92 down 0.1 per cent. Tata Motors, MRF, Tube Investment, Exide Industrie were among the losers.
The BSE IT Index closed at 5,067.73 down 0.5 per cent. Patni Computer, TCS, Moser Baer, Infosys, Satyam ended weak.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 6,434.17 down 0.2 per cent. HPCL, BPCL, IOC, GAIL ended weak.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8195.75 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 33619.61 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 3988.85 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 45804.21 crore.
