The markets have begun the week on a very strong note on account of strong cues from the Asian markets.

New Delhi: The markets have begun the week on a very strong note on account of strong cues from the Asian markets. However, Chinese markets were trading weak with over 4.5 per cent loses.

Broad based buying was seen in the opening trade. Sensex is headed towards all time high. It is just 40 points short of all time high.

At 0956 hrs, IST, the Sensex was up 104 points at 14679 and Nifty was up 23 points at 4321.

Major gainers in the opening trade were Reliance, Rel Comm, ICICI bank, SBI, Ambuja Cement, Hindalco, Satyam, Infosys, NTPC and Cipla.

Asian markets:

Asian stocks started the week on an upbeat note on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei Average hitting a three-month high. Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.19 per cent or 33.90 points at 17,992.78, Hong Kong's Hang Seng surged 0.79 per cent or 161.98 points at 20,764.85.

Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted rose 0.48 per cent or 39.79 points at 8,289.69, Singapore's Straits Times gained 0.69 per cent or 24.45 points at 3,572.77 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 0.60% or 10.38 points at 1,726.62.
