New Delhi: Country’s largest private airline Jet Airways on Monday said it will fly to three North American destinations by next year and almost double the number of pilots to 1,400 by FY'09.
The airline will also add destinations in China, Europe and the Middle East and strengthen its presence in south east Asia.
Jet will launch direct daily flights to Bangkok from New Delhi and Kolkata from January 23 as a part of its ambitious plans to expand overseas operations.
Jet presently has a fleet of 58 aircraft and operates some 330 flights to 49 destinations in India and abroad. It will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft for the India-Thailand operations.
The service will start with an inaugural return airfare of Rs 6,500 on economy class in the Kolkata-Bangkok sector for a two months and Rs 13,500 between New Delhi and Bangkok.
The airline sees international operations making up half its revenue by March 2009.
Jet, which has about 40 per cent of the domestic market, already flies to some destinations in south and south east Asia and Britain.
By August next year Jet would fly to New York from Mumbai via Brussles and in October flight to San Francisco from Mumbai via China would be started.
The carrier is also looking to fly to the African continent, mainly to South Africa and Kenya in the later part of 2007.
