Bull run on, Sensex crosses 11,746
The markets witnessed a smart rally. The Sensex closed at 11,746.90, up 108.89 points or 0.94 per cent. It touched a life high of 11,755.20.

New Delhi: The markets witnessed a smart rally. The Sensex, Nifty and CNX Midcap ended at all-time high. The Nifty closed above 3500 and the CNX Midcap crossed 5000 for first time ever. Pharma, capital goods, FMCG, banking and auto stocks gained.

The Sensex closed at 11,746.90, up 108.89 points or 0.94 per cent. It touched a life high of 11,755.20.

The Nifty ended at 3510.90, up 27.75 points or 0.80 per cent. It also hit an all-time high of 3513.95.

The CNX Midcap closed at 5017.65, up 82 points or 1.66 per cent. It also touched a life high of 5020.35.

The BSE Small Cap Index ended at 6,941.28, up 111.17 points or 1.63 per cent. The BSE Midcap Index closed at 5,614.93, up 100.57 points or 1.82 per cent.

The market breadth was positive, about 1820 shares advanced, 679 shares declined, and 48 shares remained unchanged.

The total market turnover was at Rs 50224.64 crore. The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 9154.86 crore. The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 36288.78 crore. The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 4781 crore.

Cipla, ACC, L&T, Ranbaxy Labs, HLL, Sun Pharma and Tata Tea were the biggest gainers on the indices.

Satyam, Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Tata Steel, HCL Tech and HPCL were the biggest losers on the indices.

The BSE Healthcare Index outperformed the other indices. It closed at 4,098.65 up 3.14 per cent or 124.74 points, as huge buying was seen in Cipla, Orchid Chemical, Glenmark, Ranbaxy Labs, Cadila Health, Wockhardt, Sun Pharma, Matrix Labs, Ipca Labs, Divis Labs, Biocon, Nicholas Piramal and Aurobindo Pharma.

Capital goods stocks like Praj Industries, Greaves Cotton, L&T, Alfa Laval, BEML, Thermax, Alstom Projects, ABB, Crompton Greaves, Bharat Electronics and Siemens also spurted up. The BSE Capital Goods Index ended at 8,725.63, up 2.60 per cent or 220.90 points.

FMCG stocks including Colgate, Tata Tea, HLL, Nirma, ITC, Dabur India and P&G also finished higher. The BSE FMCG Index closed at 2,328.80, up 1.60 per cent.

The BSE Bankex closed at 5,534.92, up 1.14 per cent amid gains in Bank of India, Oriental Bank, ICICI Bank, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI, Bank of Baroda, TVS Motor, MRF, Escorts, Sundaram-Clayton, Punj Tractors, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Exide Industries and Hind Motors.

Metal stocks like Hind Zinc, NALCO, Sesa Goa, Sterlite Ind, Hindalco and Jindal Saw also ended in green. The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,117.76, up 0.93 per cent.

Consumer durables stocks including Samtel Color and Su-Raj Diamonds also moved up. The BSE Consumer Durables ended at 3,284.23, up 0.58 per cent.

However, technology stocks like Hexaware Tech, Satyam, HCL Tech, Infosys and TCS slipped due to profit booking. The BSE IT Index closed at 4,125.59, down 1.11 per cent.

Some oil stocks also tumbled.
