The opening batter was also dropped from the starting eleven after below-par performances with just 12 runs against the Netherlands and was quickly replaced by Abdullah Shafique.

“Zaman is being treated for a knee injury, he is expected to be available for selection next week,” said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Zaman is the only Pakistan batsman to have scored a one-day international double hundred.

Pakistan have not had a decent start from their opening batters and it is only the youngster, Abdullah Shafique who managed to get a century against Sri Lanka in the second match of the tournament for the side.

Meanwhile, middle-order batsman Agha Salman became the latest Pakistan player to be struck down with fever ahead of the game against Australia in Bengaluru on Friday.

Six players missed training on Tuesday, suffering from fever and flu after the team reached Bengaluru.

This would add to the injury woes after Naseem Shah was ruled out of the World Cup after picking up a shoulder injury. Naseem was a crucial part of Pakistan’s lethal pace-bowling attack where he formed a partnership with Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf to form a deadly pace-bowling trio.

Pakistan had a good start to the tournament where they managed to pick up two wins against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka after which they were dominated by their arch-rivals India in the marquee fixture which took place in the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
