A Bengaluru resident recently turned to Reddit to recount a harrowing encounter with a cab driver at the airport who forcibly took his bags and drove him away, posing as an Ola driver – the very cab service the resident had initially booked. In his moment of distress, the man sought assistance from the online community, and Redditors did not disappoint. They kept a real-time watch over his situation, ensuring his safety.
The incident began with the user, known as @jewish_cyborg, sharing a photo of the cab driver’s back on the “Bangalore” subreddit and then recounting the frightening ordeal. He began, “On my way from airport to home. Booked a (an) ola. A guy just lifted my bags and said he was (from) ola. After moving a bit when I told him to take the OTP. He said no this is private cab. When I told him to stop I’ll call the police he said I’ll drop at same price.”

However, the driver refused to stop and accelerated as the passenger attempted to open the door. Fearing for his safety, the user shared his location and the driver’s face with family members, who were on a video call with him to prevent any untoward incidents.
At this point, a kind Redditor named @kartlad began tracking the passenger and the vehicle after he shared his location, providing live updates in the comment section regarding their whereabouts. They initiated this tracking at 5:45 p.m. the previous night, and by 6:10 p.m., the driver finally halted and let the passenger go after he dialed 112 and contacted the Bengaluru police for assistance.
The passenger later confirmed his safety, as the driver surrendered once the police became involved and dropped him off along with his bags before making a quick escape.
