1 Lakh People Attend Dosa Festival At Karnataka's Belthangady Bus Stand

The thin savoury crepe made with a fermented batter of ground black lentils and rice is dosa, one of the most relished dishes in India. Usually, these are served hot along with coconut chutney and sambhar. It is also made with various fillings and makes for a sumptuous snack. This popular south-Indian dish is popular all over the country and other places as well.

Very recently, the country celebrated Diwali which is observed in various styles. In Dakshin Kannada’s Belthangady, for the last few years, the Dosa festival has been celebrated with utmost pomp and zeal. This year, MLA Harish Poonja inaugurated the Belthangady bus stand. On the occasion, he said that dosa is one of the staple foods during the Diwali festival for those staying in the Tulu Nadu region.

This was the fourth annual dosa festival which was held at Belthangady bus station on Monday under the leadership of BJP Yuva Morcha Harish Poonja. Last year around 60,000 people attended the dosa festival, while this year around one lakh people were present at the festival. The MLA said, “By celebrating dosa festival, the youth of the BJP Yuva Morcha of the taluk is doing a great job of saving our culture and rituals. Diwali is being celebrated publicly in the city for the fourth year by illuminating the lights. Let it continue like this always.”

Reportedly, the BJP Yuva Morcha of Belthangady Vidhansabha Constituency has been organising the dosa festival for the last four years. What made this year’s celebrations unique was that this time around 70,000 dosas were prepared with 15 quintals of rice. But did you know that these dosas were sold for free of cost?

The public savoured the dosas throughout the day. From sweet avalakki, uddina dosa, bele saaru to gatti chutney were given to the public. The organisers were prepared for a huge crowd and no matter how many arrived, there were perfect arrangements made to give dosa on the day of the festival to the people. Apart from the dosa festival, people also worship cows on the festival of Diwali which is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
