The Rs 12 Lakh Scooter: 125cc Vespa 946 Emporio Armani Edition Launched
It's a 125cc scooter that promises exclusivity like none other. Well, almost.

There are many things that you can buy for Rs 12 lakh but only a few of them offer the exclusive bragging rights of saying that your 125cc scooter is as expensive as a full-fledged SUV. The scooter we are talking about is the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani which has been launched at Rs 12,04,970 (ex-showroom, Pune).

But before you give it the tag of the most expensive scooter in India, keep in mind that there’s also the Aprilia SRV 850 ABS which is more expensive than the Vespa. But then again, Vespa 946 is targeted towards a different kind of an audience. It is not for those who are setting lap records at racetracks or smoking KTMs between red lights in drag races, but for those who would like to sit back, relax and enjoy the experience.

What makes it so expensive, though? Well, for starters, Vespa has tried to fit the most high-tech features in the 946 that you could find. It has ASR traction control, ABS, LED projector headlamps, LED indicators, LCD instrument cluster, 220 mm double disc brakes at the front and a special paint scheme that looks different in different shades of light.

It’s got Italian written all over it with the retro style approach, which has been inspired from the 1946 Vespa scooters.

The model came into existence last year to mark the 40th anniversary of the foundation of Giorgio Armani and the 130th birthday of the Piaggio Group. The 946 refers to the year 1946 when the original scooter was rolled out.

Along with the 946, Vespa also launched the Vespa 70th anniversary edition, which is a special edition VXL model. It gets the ‘Azzurro 70’ body colour with a fly screen, glossy dust grey alloy wheels and leather pattern seats. It has been priced at a relatively modest Rs 96,500 (ex-showroom, Pune)

It is clearly a bold move by Vespa to launch a scooter at that price range and it remains to be seen as to how successful their newly launched scooters are in India.

What's your reaction?
