Kolkata East-West Metro: New Timetable Finalized For Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Route
The East-West Metro currently runs between Sealdah and Sector V, with ongoing work on the 2.5km stretch between Esplanade and Sealdah.

The East-West Metro has finalized its schedule for the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade link, making it easier for commuters to travel across Kolkata.

According to the latest update, the first train will depart from both Howrah Maidan and Esplanade at 7 am, with the last service wrapping up at 9:45 pm.

Officials have detailed that there will be a 12 to 15-minute gap between trains, varying depending on the time of day. During peak hours from 7 am to 9 am, 11 am to 5 pm, and 8 pm to 9:45 pm, trains will operate every 15 minutes. Meanwhile, during other times, the interval will be 12 minutes, as reported by The Telegraph Online.

A total of 130 trains will shuttle between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade from Monday to Saturday, ensuring frequent and reliable service for commuters. However, it’s worth noting that there won’t be any commercial services on Sundays.

Ahead of each day’s service, a “pilot run” will be conducted from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade at a controlled speed of 40 kmph. Additionally, the trains operating on this route will undergo weekly inspections at the maintenance depot located at Central Park.

While the East-West Metro is already operational between Sealdah and Sector V, work is still underway for a 2.5km stretch between Esplanade and Sealdah.

The introduction of commercial services between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade is expected to significantly ease the commute for residents traveling from across the river to the heart of Kolkata.
