Chennai lad Aditya Patel has just finished testing the Audi R8 LMS for the upcoming season of the ADAC GT Masters series in Germany, in the process becoming the first Indian to do so. Aditya’s international debut was in 2009 with the German edition of Volkswagen Polo Cup. Subsequently, he moved onto the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup where, he finished fifth overall in the latest season.
An ecstatic Aditya said,”The test was a big surprise for me and almost like an early Christmas gift. I thought the car would be much harder to drive but it was just super fun! The 15 laps that I did in this car brought back a certain amount of confidence in me. I think I almost tested the limit of the car a little bit. Rene Rast and the engineers helped me understand the car before the first session and it was really useful. Braking is one key area where I need to improve.”
Aditya added, “I was able to control the car very well, throughout the test. Compared to my Scirocco R-Cup car, the R8 has more grip and downforce. The car, on fast corners, feels pretty much neutral and has got fantastic balance. Compared with the Scirocco’s 210kmph, the R8 does 250kmph.”
The 2011 season of the ADAC GT Masters series saw 146 drivers from 17 nations taking part in 16 races. Aside from Audi, several other manufacturers’ like Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Corvette, Alpina, Ford and Mercedes were part of the last season. The 2012 season, will see McLaren making an entry in the series.
