The Afghanistan cricket may have missed out on a semi-final spot in the ODI World Cup but an impressive performance throughout the tournament has ensured them a berth in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side finished sixth on the points table with 8 points, making it their best-ever campaign in the history of ODI World Cups.

The Afghans received endless love and affection in whichever city they went to. They ended their journey with a 5-wicket defeat at the hands of South Africa in Ahmedabad. A couple of days later to their last fixture, a viral video took the internet by storm which suggests wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz secretly helping the homeless people sleeping on the footpaths of Ahmedabad.

The video was shared by a local radio jockey, stating that the incident took place around 3 am. While the people were asleep, Gurbaz got out of his car and kept currency notes of INR 500 beside them before leaving without letting anyone know about his presence.

The video has gone viral like wildfire and people are reposting it on their walls on microblogging site X. Cricketnext doesn’t claim that the person appearing in the video is the cricketer himself nor the Gurbaz has reacted to it as of yet.

Here’s how the netizens reacted:

After suffering back-to-back defeats, against Bangladesh and India, Afghanistan bounced back with a historic win against defending champions England in Delhi. They went on to win against the likes of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands before losing to Australia and South Africa.
