As the ‘final’ battle between the modern era’s greatest rivals, India and Australia, is in progression at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, the domestic air traffic created a record with over 4 lakh passengers travelling on a single day on Saturday.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the domestic air traffic in India saw 4,56,748 passengers on Saturday, breaking its previous best of 456,082, recorded on April 30. Additional factors including the end of Diwali holidays and Chatth Puja travel also played a role in the massive hike in air travel.
Ahmedabad also saw skyrocketing plane ticket prices for the city reaching as high as Rs 40,000 ahead of the big match. Hotels in Ahmedabad and nearby areas also saw a rise in the prices reaching up to Rs 1 lakh per day.
Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi stadium, with a seating capacity of 132,000 spectators, is painted with a ‘sea of blue’ as the supporters of the Indian cricket team thronged the venue to witness ‘men in blue’ create history.

According to flight tracking site FlightRadar24, an average delay of 28 minutes was reported for arrivals at Ahmedabad and an average delay of 42 minutes for departures from the city. The Ahmedabad airport was also the third most disrupted airport in the world as per FlightRadar24.
Meanwhile, airlines have been advised to carry extra fuel for flights to Ahmedabad when flying between 07:00 am on November 19 to 10:00 am on Nov 20, in view of extra flights and anticipated congestion. Ahmedabad also won’t be available as a planned diversion airport from 07:00 am on November 19 to 06:00 pm on November 20, a Hindustan Times report mentioned.
