IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli Scripts History, Joins Elite List With Half-Century in World Cup Finals
Virat Kohli managed to join an elite list of players who share the record of scoring fifty-plus runs in both the semi-final and finals of the World Cup.

Virat Kohli managed to join a prestigious list of players after his knock of 54 in 63 deliveries against Australia in the World Cup finals at Ahmedabad. He is now the first Indian to join a select few players who have managed to score fifty-plus runs in the World Cup semi-finals and finals.

Virat Kohli managed to join his Australian counterpart, Steven Smith who had joined the list during his World Cup winning campaign in 2015. Smith had scored 105 off 93 against India in the semi-finals and 56 off 71 balls in the finals against New Zealand.

Another notable member in the list is Grant Elliot who was part of the New Zealand side that managed to make it to the finals of the 2015 World Cup. He was crucial in their road to the finals as he managed to score a match-winning 84 against South Africa in the semi-finals. He also made a significant contribution in the finals but was in vain as he scored a valiant 83 off 82 balls in their loss against Australia in the 2015 finals.

Another legend from the Sri Lankan cricketing fraternity, Aravinda de Silva had scored 66 off 47 before being dismissed by Anil Kumble in the World Cup 1996 semi-finals. He also contributed to a winning cause in the finals against Australia at Lahore where he scored 107 off 124 balls to help Sri Lanka chase the target and win their maiden World Cup title.

Pakistan’s Javid Miandad played a crucial role in the knockout stage against New Zealand in the semi-finals where he was one of the batters that stayed through to the end, scoring an unbeaten 57 to send Pakistan into the finals of the 1992 World Cup. He also was part of the finals where he scored 58 runs against England at Melbourne which helped them also win their maiden World Cup title.

Australia’s David Boon and England’s Mike Brearley managed to join the list as well for scoring half-centuries in the World Cup in 1987 and 1979 respectively.

Despite Kohli’s knock, Team India is now on the back foot as they are struggling to get towards the 250 mark as they look to close the finish off the first innings strong despite the loss of batters in crucial phases of the innings.
