In a bizarre incident, a 31-year-old man climbed the pipe to the fourth floor of a hotel in the early hours of Monday and molested a woman when she resisted his demand for sex.
The accused had allegedly watched the woman enter the hotel in Ahmedabad’s Naroda, after which he decided to climb up to her room.
In an FIR filed at Naroda police station, the 26-year-old woman said that she, along with her husband, had been staying at the hotel — in Naroda-Muthia area — for a month and a half as their house under renovation, a Times of India report said.
At around 3:30 am on Monday, when the woman’s husband left the hotel to get some snacks, she noticed someone at her room’s window. Suddenly, a man jumped inside and demanded that she have sex with him.
Upon facing resistance, the accused allegedly molested her. On the first chance she got, she ran out of the room calling for help when hotel staffers and her husband rushed to her rescue.
According to the FIR, the man allegedly assaulted the husband as well.
The Naroda police team was alerted about the incident after they received a call from one of the hotel staffers, following which they rushed to the hotel and arrested the accused — identified as Parth Patel — a resident of Sardarnagar.
Reportedly, Patel has been accused of assault and molestation. The accused is a daily-wage labourer, said SJ Bhatia, Naroda police inspector, adding that he had been watching the woman for a long time.
Even after the hotel staff and the complainant’s husband caught Patel, he abused and threatened them, following which he also assaulted the husband.
PREVIOUS CASES OF MOLESTATION
A week ago, in another case of molestation, the head of an orphanage was arrested for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old inmate of the establishment in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Kotwali police station Dharmendra Kumar Singh said the orphanage staff had complained that the establishment’s head had touched the girl inappropriately on July 31.
The girl had informed the orphanage’s warden as well as her elder sister, living in the same establishment, about the molestation, the police officer said. A case was registered against the orphanage’s head, Omkar Arya (39), under the Indian Penal Code as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SHO said.
Earlier this month, a case was registered against a security supervisor of a government hospital in Kerala’s Kozhikode for allegedly attempting to molest a Dalit woman employee in the hospital building.
According to police, a case was registered against Suresh on October 5 based on the victim’s complaint.
The woman alleged that the accused had attempted to molest her while she was changing her clothes after her shift in August.
The complainant said she did not take legal action immediately as she was a temporary staffer at the hospital. But changed her decision later as the accused continued to threaten her.
A case was registered under IPC 354 (assault or criminal force to any woman) and under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police said.
