'Why Not Split Up?': Internet Reacts After Man Admits Taking Notes During Argument with GF
Many social media users asked the couple to break up as their relationship apparently did not sound healthy.

People often go to Reddit to share their problems and dilemmas. Recently, a Reddit user took to the platform and shared how he was feeling ‘gaslit’ by his girlfriend who would frequently misquote him during their arguments. To handle this situation, he started taking notes during their argument to make sure that he was keeping track of her points. However, his girlfriend expressed frustration over his note-taking. When the man insisted that he would continue to take the notes, his girlfriend stopped talking to him. The post concluded with the Reddit user mentioning that the couple had not spoken for two days.

AITA for transcribing my girlfriend’s arguments during a fight in a notebook?byu/ShelterAppropriate inAmItheAsshole

This post has so far gathered over 1,000 upvotes and over 300 comments in just one day. In the comments, many people sympathised with the guy and agreed that he was being gas-lit.

A Reddit user advised, “A recording is better. The issue with notes is that they are still YOUR notes, so there is still a potential of bias or “fakery” from the writer. Unless you somehow get the other person to sign it …which would be unlikely it’s still a bit “he said, she said”. Recordings on the other hand give tones and deeper meanings that can’t be transcribed on paper. It’s also more evidential because it’s usually harder to fake a recording than to fake a written note.”

A Reddit user said that recording a forgetful person’s argument may offer them clarity and said, “My father had a very bad habit of forgetting what he said during an argument, but remembering what the other person said. He once recorded an argument to prove he was right, then heard what he had said leading to the response. He became much better after this.”

Many netizens asked the man to break up because his relationship did not sound healthy. Echoing this view, a Reddit user said, “Why do this? Why not just split up? You don’t like each other and you’re both fighting to win and not to solve. It’s making you weird (this is deeply weird and extreme behavior) and it’s making her hostile and possibly dishonest. Why stay together unless you both have now developed a taste for mutual psychological torture? End it.”

What's your reaction?
