Twenty-seven-year-old Soiheem Hussain, the second man involved in the murder of Indian restaurant manager Vignesh Pattabi Raman in Reading, has been charged with murder.
According to a report in Times of India, Hussain of Rossby, Shinfield, appeared at Reading crown court on Monday and was charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of 36-year-old Raman.
Raman, the manager of South Indian restaurant Vel, was found dead in Reading’s Addington Road on Valentine’s Day following a collision between his bike and a vehicle.
Hussain is the second man to be charged with Raman’s murder. Shazeb Khalid (24), of no fixed abode, had appeared in the same court on February 22, also charged with Raman’s murder. Neither entered a plea. Both were remanded in custody, the report stated.
Reports earlier stated that Raman was struck down by a motorist on Valentine’s Day at around 11:50 pm. Police said that the cyclist was reportedly attacked by the driver who fled the scene. The cyclist, later identified as Raman, was pronounced dead at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Khalid was arrested on suspicion of murder on February 19. Police said the seven men, aged 20, 21, 24, 27, 31, 41 and 48, all from Reading, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but were later released on bail.
Earlier, Thames Valley Police had stressed the importance of eyewitness accounts and urged individuals with CCTV or dash-cam footage to assist in the probe. “We have launched a murder investigation following this incident. Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has died at this tragic time,” a senior investigating officer earlier said.
