Donald Trump received a hero’s welcome on Thursday (local time) as he arrived at the Milwaukee stage for the Republican National Convention (RNC), where the former US President formally accepted the GOP nomination.
“Tonight, with faith and devotion, I proudly accept your nomination for president of the United States,” Trump told the Republican convention in the US state of Wisconsin. This power-packed speech came as the 78-year-old is hoping to build momentum toward a November victory over US President Joe Biden and a second term in the White House.

‘President for all of America’
Days after surviving an assassination attempt, Trump said, “Together, we will launch a new era of safety, prosperity and freedom for citizens of every race, religion, colour and creed.” Striking a conciliatory note ahead of elections, Trump said, “The discord and division in our society must be healed, we must heal it quickly…I am running to be President for all of America, not half of America because there is no victory in winning for half of America.”

Supporters lined up all week to applaud the former president for his bravery since the weekend attack by a gunman at a Pennsylvania rally. Trump has a 90-minute speaking slot, from 9:00 to 10:30 pm (local time). Trump has seen his polling lead expand since Biden’s dismal debate performance threw his party into chaos.
The four-day party convention opened Monday with a vote to confirm Trump as the party’s nominee after he won almost every state’s primary contest. The week also saw Trump name right-wing Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate. The 39-year-old author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a best-selling memoir about growing up poor in working-class America, is a former Trump critic who became one of his staunchest backers.

As a resurgent Trump readies for a triumphant prime-time appearance, team Biden is in full crisis mode as pressure from within the incumbent’s Democratic Party builds for him to end his reelection bid. Barack Obama has reportedly told allies that he believes Biden, his vice president for eight years, should “seriously consider the viability of his candidacy,” the Washington Post reported. Those comments came on top of leading Democratic lawmakers calling on the 81-year-old president to drop out in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against Trump last month.
