Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared a captivating video featuring a rare golden tiger leisurely strolling through Kaziranga National Park in Assam. This extraordinary sighting has garnered widespread attention on social media, leaving viewers in awe. Wildlife photographer Gaurav Ramnarayanan, who captured a striking image of the majestic cat, believes that such a rare encounter in the wild might be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
According to reports from The Hindu, the wildlife enthusiast came across the tiger with its unique golden coat during a safari on January 24. This remarkable footage follows a similar sighting of a wild cat at the national park in early 2023. Captured on National Tourism Day, the video was taken by expert guide Buddheshwar Konwar.
Meanwhile, the official X page of the Assam Chief Minister shared the video on the platform and wrote, “The video Assam’s wildlife never ceases to amaze. In a conversation with the portal, the wildlife photographer said, “The male adult golden tiger was sighted around 3:30 – 4 PM when I was taking guests from Australia for a safari. Initially, it was around 800 metres away and then it walked towards the safari vehicle, as close as about 80 metres, while moving along its own path. It was quite exciting and I don’t think this will ever repeat again. Also, during previous sightings, they were either far away or in poor lighting conditions and no quality documentation happened.”
He mentioned that there is believed to be more than one tiger with a golden coat in the area. However, the exact estimate is unknown and it is unclear whether these tigers have coexisted or appeared one after the other.
