As October inches towards its end, New York City is gearing up for its much-awaited Halloween Parade. The annual event is filled with fun, featuring people dressed in creative costumes as they take to the streets. With the Halloween season kicking in, a video from last year’s parade has reignited the festive frenzy among internet users.
In the clip, several thousands of merrymakers are dressed in costume, performing a choreographed dance to the throbbing music. The video was originally posted on Instagram last year. What made last year’s event all the more special was the fact that it was the golden jubilee celebration of the parade.
The event with the theme ‘Upside/Down: Inside/OUT’ took place on October 31 from 7 PM to 11 PM in Lower Manhattan. It included a colourful parade on Sixth Avenue and started from Canal Street all the way to West 15th Street.
The video, wherein a large group danced to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, has garnered 11 million views on Instagram.
A user commented, “I want to do this so badly! On my bucket list. Maybe next year!”
Another user chimed in to add, “I gotta pull up for this. I know the routine”.
A third user stated, “Always enjoy going to the Halloween parade in NYC. It’s the best!”
“Where do I sign up for?” a user asked.
“One of my absolute fav moments about NYC”, read a comment.
If you thought last year was epic, 2024 is only going to be bigger, bolder and cattier – yes, cattier. The theme for this year is ‘Meow!’, so everyone is welcome to let the cat out of the bag – be stylish house cats or wild tigers. To be held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, from 7 PM to 11 PM. The parade will start along Sixth Avenue, from Canal Street to 15th Street.
Broadway’s much-acclaimed André De Shields, known for his roles in Hadestown and Cats, will be this year’s Grand Marshal.
For those who want to tune in, the optimal positions are between Bleecker Street and 14th Street; meaning people should arrive as early as possible to get good-standing positions. Can’t make it in person? Catch the live broadcast on NY1 from 8 PM to 9:30 PM.
