Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly hold multiple records in the history of Indian cricket.

If there is a list of partnerships in cricket that has become the stuff of legends, the iconic combination of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly will be a top contender. The two former greats hold multiple records in the history of Indian cricket. They also set the record for the highest opening partnership runs (6609) scored in ODIs. Snippets of their camaraderie and friendship over the years were on full display in a video that has now gone viral on social media. In the post, Ganguly can be heard recalling how, during their initial cricket days, Tendulkar tried to speak in Bengali to make him feel relaxed.

Reacting to the post, one social media user described Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar as a “perfect example of a great cricket partnership.”

Another person wrote, “Players back then were true role models for kids. No fan wars like today, playing and winning for the country was always the priority. Miss those Golden days of Indian cricket.”

One particular user commented, “Good old days when there were Indian cricket fans. No Ganguly sons or Tendulkar sons. No slander for our own players. We may have won fewer matches, but we definitely made more pure hearted sports fans.”

Even after their retirement, both Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar often speak fondly of each other. A while back, Ganguly had recalled an instance in 2007 when Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar’s ball cracked Tendulkar’s ribs. Despite the injury, Tendulkar continued to finish the match. Ganguly recalled, “Sachin was special and I have seen him up close. I have seen him getting hit in the rib cage. I asked him if he was okay and he said yes. He did not make a noise. Got runs. The next morning he had a double fracture in his ribs.”

In July 2022, ahead of Sourav Ganguly’s 50th birthday, Sachin Tendulkar praised the former skipper’s leadership. Sachin had said that Ganguly “knew how to maintain a balance – between giving freedom to the players and giving them certain responsibilities.”

One of the finest captains ever to lead the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly announced his retirement from international cricket in 2008. Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, featured in an international game for the last time during a Test match against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2013.
