Everyone’s eagerly awaiting the CSK vs RCB clash on May 18th at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The cricket enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement, eager to witness what’s dubbed as the El Clasico at the stadium itself, hunting for tickets. However, this excitement turned into a nightmare for a man in Bengaluru who, in his quest for IPL tickets, fell victim to scammers.
The 28-year-old man, who lost Rs. 3 lakhs between 10 a.m. on May 10 and 11 p.m. on May 12, stumbled upon an advertisement on an Instagram handle named ‘ipl_2024_tickets__24’, where the advertiser claimed to be selling tickets for the match. The man contacted the advertiser through chat, and the scammer assured him that he would send the tickets after receiving the payment, even providing a photo of an Aadhaar card and a mobile number to appear legitimate.

Opting to purchase three tickets, the man paid Rs. 2,300 and Rs. 7,900 online. However, he did not receive the tickets and upon contacting the advertiser, was asked to pay an additional Rs. 67,000.
Questioning the sudden increase in price, the man was told that time was running out, which pressured him into paying the amount. Despite transferring the sum, he did not receive the e-tickets. The advertiser continued to make excuses and promised a refund.
Over the next two days, the man paid the scammer Rs. 3 lakhs, who then demanded more money. This prompted the man to approach the police. A case was registered, with the police emphasising that ticket sales only occurred on RCB’s official website and at the stadium counters.
