A viral video circulating online features a group of people helping others to cross the flooded subway using shopping carts.

Heavy rainfall in Dubai has disrupted the daily lives of residents. Waterlogging has caused chaos, as flights are being diverted, driving has become challenging, schools are closed and remote work is being implemented. The weather department has warned that more intense winds and rain is expected in the region. Despite the challenges, some smart individuals have found an innovative way to make money. A viral video circulating online features a group of people who came up with a business plan to help others during the floods. Using shopping carts, these individuals are ferrying people in the flooded subways. While some opted to walk in the water to save money, others chose the convenience of using these improvised transport methods.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) government initiated cloud seeding operations in 2002 to control extreme heat and water security concerns. However, the lack of proper drainage systems in many areas has triggered floods. Although cloud seeding has been practiced in the past, excessive usage this year has led to chaotic conditions. Responding to the situation, the UAE government has issued warnings, urging residents to remain indoors and leave home only if there’s a need. Meanwhile, a viral video features a group of men using shopping carts by offering rides to people who want to cross the submerged subway. Sharing the video, the Instagram page wrote, “Heavy rain in Dubai – stay safe everyone.”

Ever since the video was shared on Instagram, it has become an internet sensation and crossed over 5 million views. While some social media users shared their hilarious reactions to the situation, others admired the individuals for helping and assisting others during this challenging time.

A user jokingly asked, “Thodi rain Bangalore deliver kardo. (Please send some rain to Bangalore).”

Another wrote, “So called developed country.”

“This is business,” a comment read.

An individual shared, “Aapda ko afsar mei badalna Koi inse seekhe. (People should learn to turn disaster into opportunity from them).”

Another joked, “Paani hi hai na mujhe laga petrol ki baarish hui hai. (It’s just water, right? I thought it was raining petrol).”

One more wrote, “Dubai mein ye sab or kya kya dekhna padega. (What else is left to see in Dubai).”

According to reports from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the United Arab Emirates is witnessing the highest rainfall recorded in 75 years. Dubai, in particular, is going through severe flooding, as the city received 1.5 years’ worth of rainfall in just one day. Within 24 hours, the city received nearly 5 inches (127 mm) of rainfall, leading to waterlogging and disruption of normal life.
