The Kelly bag by French luxury design house Hermes is one of the most popular and iconic bags of all time. This bag, named after actor and Monegasque princess Grace Kelly, has over the years undergone many variations. In 2021, the creative director of Hermes Jewellery, Pierre Hardy, created a unique version of the Kelly bag named the Kellymorphose bag. The Kellymorphose bag is extremely tiny and studded with jewels. One can probably fit just one lipstick into its tiny frame but what makes it truly special is its design which allows people to deconstruct the ‘bag’ into different ornaments such as bracelets, necklaces, and rings.
Radhika Merchant brought this bag into the limelight in India when she wore it with her black saree during the launch of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai. The Kellymorphose bag retails for more than INR 52,00,000. However, despite the bag’s exquisite design, many people are unimpressed, especially considering its high price point.
Recently, an Instagram account Prestige Palace, shared a video that showed the delicate design of the tiny bag. This clip soon gathered over one lakh likes, but many people took to comments to express their bemusement.

Dissing the bag, an Instagram user wrote, “This looks like what i can get from shein.” Someone described it as “waste of money”, while another person commented that the bag “looks like kids dress up bag.” Commenting on the tiny bag’s big price point, another person wrote, “I can buy a whole house for that much money!” Even Hermès fans were unimpressed. An Instagram user wrote, “I love hermes but this is too much.”
At the launch of the Kellymorphose bag, the bag’s creator Pierre Hardy, told Vogue, “This Kelly bag elevates its functional components: the side straps, and an elemental clasp consisting of a turnlock, a plate and four studs. I do the same with Kelly jewellery, by reinterpreting or disrupting its original lines.” The veteran French fashion designer described the many ways of wearing the bag and said, “I like movement, a chain that winds around itself, a ring that splits into two, a key-chain that swings as you walk—I like capturing mobility without ever fixing it in place. I like the momentum of the body, which echoes creative momentum.”
