New Delhi: With web security issues rising at an alarming rate, tech companies are introducing alternative ways for users to protect their login information. The latest to join the bandwagon for secure login process is Yahoo which has rolled out a password-on-demand feature.
Similar to the online bank transaction processes, Yahoo's new two-step authentication feature lets you opt for an optional login process that sends a single-use password to your phone whenever you want to login the service.
In the company's official Tumblr post, Chris Stoner, Director of Product Management, said that the on-demand passwords eliminate the need of memorizing a difficult password to sign in to your account.
You can simply sign in to your Yahoo.com account and go to your account information page. Select 'Security' in the left bar and enable the 'on-demand passwords' to change the default settings. Enter your phone number and once verified, you will be able to ask for OTPs the next time you login.
This feature will help users to avoid potential misuse or hijack of their web account as long as their mobile device is nearby. It is currently available only in the US. However, there is a possibility of seeing its global roll out in near future.
