New Delhi: Xiaomi has just upped the smartphone competition in India with its newest smartphone - the Xiaomi Mi 4i - that carries a very competitive price tag of Rs 12,999. The phone goes on sale from April 30 and registrations begin on April 23 at 8 PM on Flipkart.

The Mi 4i will soon be available across all Xiaomi channels including the Snapdeal, Amazon and the Mobile Store.

The phone will also launch in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia in May.

The phone's global unveiling was held in New Delhi. The Mi 4i boasts of some top-notch specs at a budget price. The phone has a unibody design and is powered by a 2nd generation Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor.

The 5-inch device has a full HD resolution of 1920x1080 pixels at 441 PPI. The Mi 4i draws its juice from a 3120mAh battery that promises 1.5 days of normal usage.

The Mi 4i has a 13 megapixel rear camera with two-tone flash and a 5 megapixel front camera with selfie timer. The 4G dual SIM device comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The UX is Xiaomi's MIUI 6 atop Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Xiaomi has also unveiled its Mi Band for the Indian market at a price of Rs 999.

India is a major market for Xiaomi outside its home country China. Xiaomi had recently sold a Guinness Record breaking 2.11 million handsets in 12 hours.

Xiaomi is making an aggressive pitch for the Indian market that it had entered in July last year. The company had been selling its devices online exclusively on Flipkart until April 8 when it announced its partnership with two new e-commerce platforms Snapdeal and Amazon.

To reach out to more consumers Xiaomi has also ventured into brick and mortar stores by partnering with retail chain The Mobile Store. It has also entered into a partnership with telecom operator Bharti Airtel.
