New Delhi: As part of the final stages of the 18,000 layoffs announced by Microsoft last year, the software company has made another round of job cuts this week.
The company turned 40 yesterday and a company representative confirmed that the layoffs have indeed been carried out at the software giant. It is also said that the IT department has been the worst hit with some of the layoffs being carried out at Microsoft's Redmond, Washington, headquarters.
A Geekwire report noted that Microsoft had announced in late October that it had completed almost all of the 18,000 layoffs planned as part of its broader restructuring initiative.
However, it had given itself the time till the end of its fiscal year, June 30, to complete the last stages. A reduction of 18,000 positions reflect a share of about 14 per cent of the 127,000-strong company has of last June.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella had said at the time of the original announcement last year that the goal was to have "fewer layers of management, both top down and sideways, to accelerate the flow of information and decision making."
