New Delhi: It seems Microsoft has plenty of surprises up its sleeve when it officially unwraps its Windows 10 OS this summer. Other than an overhauled operating system for the desktop and Windows phones, the latest software is packed with brand new features and redesigned elements that are sure to awe many.
The latest to come from Microsoft is an app, designed for the upcoming Windows 10 OS, that will not only help you connect your Windows PC to whichever smartphone you use, but will also bring the Apple’s Siri-like voice assistant Cortana to the rival devices for free.
Microsoft announced in its blog that its Phone Companion app built-in the Windows 10 PC will let you download Cortana on iPhone or Android smartphone that will work as a companion to its PC counterpart.
The company notes that the Cortana app for iOS or Android will do most of the things the voice assistant does on the PC or on a Windows phone like reminding you about your to-do tasks and allowing you to track your flight on both the phone and PC so that you get the updates on whichever device you are currently using.
Everything in Cortana’s Notebook will show across all your devices and any changes you make on one device will be reflected on other devices. However, certain features like toggling settings or opening apps require access to the system that won’t be currently possible with iOS or Android.
The Cortana companion will be available for Android phone at the end of June, while iPhone users will have to wait till the end of the year to use the digital assistant.
