Android users are facing another bout of zero-day security risk that needs your immediate attention. Google’s latest security update fixes a whopping 46 vulnerabilities which includes a major flaw that could become a disaster for Android users. Clement Lecigne from Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) is credited with finding the vulnerabilities and reporting to the company for which the fix is out already.
Google Zero-Day Android Security Issue – What It Says
The security alert from Clement makes a special mention for the remote code execution (RCE) flaw that he claims has already been exploited by hackers in the wild and nobody knows the extent of these attacks.
It is linked to the Linux kernel that is running the core Android platform and hackers can use the security issue with this component of Android that can be exploited to modify network connections and make them link through their server to push malicious content or apps on the device.
Google’s TAG is still trying to get to the deep end of the zero-day issues even though the patches have been rolled out for eligible devices in two sets, one of which was released on August 1, 2024 and the second one came out on August 5, 2024.
Google’s Pixel updates are quite regular so it is likely that the Pixel devices have got these patches earlier this month. However, we expect other brands to take their time in fixing the issues at their end, and making sure the software is tuned rightly to run on their hardware.
Zero-day exploits raise major red flags for security experts as well as the manufacturers so it is pivotal that the TAG offers more clarity on the issue and how it has affected Android users, how many devices were impacted and the severity of the exploits.
