Apple Intelligence or AI is finally here on the iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max models this week. Well, it is only the developer preview version of iOS 18.1 update that is offering a teaser of the fancy AI features that premium iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 16 users later this year will be getting.
AI from Apple is going to be different, mostly because of its focus on user privacy and keeping all the data on-device courtesy its own AI chips powering data centres. iOS 18.1 developer preview is here and if you have the eligible iPhone 15 Pro models to try it out, here’s how you can go about it.
iOS 18.1 Developer Preview With AI Features – How To Get It
Apple is offering the iOS 18.1 Developer Preview to a host of iPhone models but only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are eligible to try out the AI features. Being a developer preview clearly means that the version will have a lot of bugs and some apps may not behave rationally. So, it is highly advised that you do not install the Developer Preview on your primary device which you need for calls, messages and important work mails.
You can go to iPhone Settings and look for the Software update section where the option to apply for the beta program is available. Once you login with your Apple ID and provide the necessary verification, Apple will offer you a pop-up to install the iOS 18.1 Developer Preview version.
Once you do that, now you have to enroll for Apple Intelligence features separately. Apple is running a waitlist model for people in the US who can try out the upcoming tools. Once you clear the waiting time which takes a few hours, you can install the upcoming AI features on the iPhone 15 Pro models.
iOS 18.1 Update – AI Is Here
Apple is giving Siri an AI makeover with the iOS 18.1 version that not only speaks more like a human but the responses are more personal and contextual. Apple’s voice assistant has needed a major overhaul and after all these years, AI could be its saviour.
Siri is currently offering answers related to the US but soon we could see it enhance its reputation and finally get rid of the memes that have become a folklore for the Siri critics. The biggest design overhaul means that Siri now lights up on the edge of the iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max display.
Safari is another benefactor of the AI upgrade thanks to the Summarise Button which is at the top of the web browser. As the name suggests, you get a summary of the web page you are browsing on Safari. Using it with an Apple ID means you don’t need to create another account.
Photos on iPhones is also getting a new AI feature in the form of Memory Movie. You can use text prompts to create content and even customise the movie video created with the help of Apple’s AI tech.
Apple is also using AI to offer its Grammarly rival for iPhone users. The new Writing Tools promises to help you correct the wrong spellings, grammar that you have across apps like Notes.
These features are just a trailer for the full movie that will be releasing in the foreseeable future. But for now, we at least know what the premium iPhone users can expect to see when the iOS 18.1 version rolls out later this year.
