Google Finally Hints When RCS Chat Feature Will Be Coming To iPhone Users This Year
Google has been wanting Apple to adopt RCS messages for years but the iPhone maker is now being forced into the big change thanks to pressure from EU regulators

Google is finally getting its wish as the company confirms when the Rich Communication Service (RCS) messages will be coming to iPhone users this year. Apple has already suggested the iOS 18 update will support the messaging standard that works between iPhone and Android devices. And now, Google has given us the clearest hint that RCS messages will work on iPhones later this year.

Google Messages has a dedicated webpage where you get details about how the RCS-enabled messaging app works on Android, web and Chrome. But recently, RCS coming soon to iPhone was also spotted by the folks at 9to5Google, which has now been removed.

RCS Messages On iPhone: Google Wins Over Apple?

Apple has avoided getting into the RCS debate for a long time, and Google has tried everything to change that. Finally that is going to happen as iOS 18 could mark the entry of RCS messaging for the iPhone users. RCS is likely to be announced with the new version when it releases in September. Apple will be bringing iOS 18 and we’ll know more about the new version at the WWDC 2024 in June.

RCS messaging is the Android version of iMessage and its features are similar to those you have on apps like WhatsApp. It supports multimedia messages, rich text content, lets you share files, videos and even images.

As far as the features go, you could say RCS messages are a strong link between iPhone and Android users, allowing them to share multimedia, and files that is not possible between RCS and iMessage. The company was never keen to make this push but its ongoing battle with the European Union (EU) regulators has resulted in this big change among others that we have seen in the past 12 months or so. We have seen people try different ways to make iMessage work on Android phones, but it seems RCS chats on iPhone is the best solution that will be officially available later this year.
