Apple is ready to enter the foldable arena in the next few years and reports say the company will start the battle with an iPhone flip model in the market. Samsung has been around in this space with the Galaxy Z Flip version and the six-gen model came out recently. But it seems Apple wants to take its time rather than push a product in a hurry.
The news report claims Apple will launch the Flip iPhone model sometime in 2026 which means you could see the iPhone 18 launch event have a big foldable surprise that year. The timing of this report is intriguing, since Apple has been tipped to launch foldables previously as well, where some even hinted that the first foldable could be from the iPad stable.
It is being mentioned that the development of the flip iPhone has started this year, which means the two-year cycle suggests the launch timeline of 2026 could be on the mark. Having said that, we are surprised to hear that Apple wants to start its entry into foldables with a flip version rather than a full-fledged fold.
After all, the flip form factor has failed to justify its use case, especially compared to the bigger Folds that bring multitasking to the table. Either way, Apple seems to have signed up with Samsung Display division for the foldable panels that will be offered on its foldable iPhone in the next few years.
Foldables have been around for a while and slowly we are seeing the penetration increase beyond Samsung. But the segment is still on the pricier side because of the technology in use and even though Apple would cherish bringing a premium foldable to show its ambitions, the product might have limited reach in terms of the buyers similar to its excursion with the $3,499 priced Vision Pro headset earlier this year.
