Veteran actor Janagaraj, renowned for his comedic roles in the Tamil film industry, has contributed to over 200 movies. At the age of 68, the latest photo of the actor is causing a stir as fans struggle to recognise their beloved comedian. In the viral image, Janagaraj, looking remarkably thin due to ageing, sports a maroon shirt with impeccably dyed black hair. The actor was last seen in the 2021 movie Obama Ungalukkaga, directed by Nani Bala, where Prithvi, son of Pandiaraj, played the protagonist.
The recent photo, where Janagaraj appears during an interview, has captivated the entertainment industry. Despite the visible weight loss, the actor exudes liveliness. Post-2008, Janagaraj made infrequent film appearances, with his noteworthy comeback in the 2018 film 96, where he portrayed a watchman alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha Krishnan, directed by Premkumar Chandran.
Throughout his illustrious career, Janagaraj shared the screen with Tamil cinema superstars like Rajinikanth, Sivakumar, Kamal Haasan, Ramki, and Sivaji Ganesan. Collaborating with esteemed directors such as Mani Ratnam, K Balachander, and Suresh Krishna, he commenced his journey as an unofficial assistant to director Bharathiraja. Janagaraj rose to fame with Bharathiraja’s Nizhalgal in 1980, becoming a preferred choice for comedic roles.
Known for his distinctive voice and facial expressions, Janagaraj played pivotal roles alongside Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in the 80s and early 90s. His exceptional contribution earned him the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Character Artist for his role in King, directed by Prabhu Solomon, starring Vikram and Sneha.
However, after the 2008 film Pattaya Kelappu, directed by Ponnambalam, Janagaraj took a prolonged hiatus from the Tamil film industry. Despite the lapse, his enduring legacy continues to be celebrated by fans, who are now intrigued by the latest glimpse of the veteran actor.
