Premalu Becomes Fifth Malayalam Film To Enter Rs 100 Crore Club
As per the report released by Times Now, Premalu is expected to make a lifetime collection of Rs 110 crore worldwide at the box office.

In 2024, where Tamil, Telugu and Kannada cinema are facing challenges in securing hit releases, the Malayalam film industry continues to thrive, with its movies achieving remarkable success at the box office. Notably, Jayaram-starrer Abraham Ozler and Manjummel Boys have made significant strides, leaving a lasting impact not only within the Malayalam film industry but also across other regional cinemas. The latest addition to this string of successes is the recent release of Premalu, which has become the fifth Malayalam film to surpass the Rs 100 crore mark at the global box office.

According to a report by Times Now, Premalu is projected to achieve a lifetime collection of Rs 110 crore worldwide. Made on a budget of Rs 3 crore, the romantic comedy has earned a spot in the elite Rs 100 crore club, further solidifying the dominance of the Malayalam film industry. Directed and written by Girish AD, the film stars Naslen K, Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju in pivotal roles. Notably, the production is backed by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran.

Earlier reports hinted at the film’s Tamil dubbed release on March 15, following its successful run in Malayalam. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding this development. Meanwhile, the Telugu dubbed version of the movie hit theatres on March 8.

On the streaming front, Premalu has secured its OTT rights with Disney Plus Hotstar, fetching a significant amount. Despite this, the makers are yet to announce the film’s digital release date, hinting at a possible delay owing to its theatrical success.

Premalu follows the journey of Naslen, who falls in love with Mamitha Baiju. However, his romantic advances are rebuffed as Mamitha desires a more mature and accomplished partner. The narrative takes an intriguing turn with the introduction of Shyam Mohan, essayed by an IT developer, adding depth to the storyline. Furthermore, the film’s musical score, composed by Vishnu Vijay, adds another layer of charm to the cinematic experience.

Premalu not only highlights the thriving nature of the Malayalam film industry but also presents its ability to resonate with audiences across different linguistic and cultural boundaries. With its box office success and impending digital release, the film continues to captivate viewers, reaffirming the industry’s prowess in storytelling and cinematic excellence.
